Rishikant began his snatch attempts with 116 kilograms, followed by 119 kilograms, before successfully completing his final attempt at 121 kilograms. This achievement not only established a new Commonwealth Games snatch record but also marked his personal best performance.
Mirabai Chanu Dominates Women’s 48kg Category
Meanwhile, Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu delivered another historic performance at the Glasgow venue. During the women’s 48-kilogram final, she captured attention by lifting 85 kilograms in the snatch discipline, setting a fresh Commonwealth Games record.
Her journey through the snatch attempts was dramatic. After failing her initial attempt at 82 kilograms, she successfully completed the same weight in her second try. The decisive moment came in her third attempt when she hoisted 85 kilograms, breaking existing Commonwealth records.
This victory adds to her impressive collection of gold medals from the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games editions.

Malaysia’s Muhammad Aniq Kasdan claimed the gold medal in the men’s category. Starting with 121 kilograms in the snatch—matching Rishikant’s effort—he then progressed through the clean and jerk with successive lifts of 145, 149, and finally 152 kilograms. His total of 273 kilograms set an all-time record for the competition.
Rishikant had briefly held the lead after his 143-kilogram clean and jerk lift, but his final attempt at 151 kilograms failed due to a jerking movement error, ending his gold medal hopes.
Kenya’s Joshua Embua completed the podium with a bronze medal. He lifted a combined 260 kilograms, comprising 115 kilograms in the snatch and 145 kilograms in the clean and jerk.
